Marilyn Towndrow is a painter, printmaker and designs gardens. Born in the American Midwest, she studied in Iowa, Philadelphia and California. Marilyn attained her BA (Hons) in Art (Painting with a minor in the History of Art) from Sonoma State University. She moved to Cornwall in 1993 and has since undertaken postgraduate study with the University of Plymouth.

Her work consists of painting, drawing, printmaking and more recently, garden design. She has exhibited in commercial and public galleries in Britain and the USA, (National Print Exhibition, London; California State University). Her work is held in private collections on both sides of the Atlantic.Marilyn has taught Visual Studies on the BA (Hons) Illustration programme at University College Falmouth since 1995. as well as lecturing on BA Fine Art, BA Garden Design, BA Ceramics and BA Photography, in Drawing and Life Drawing. She has guest lectured at Anglia Polytechnic University, Cambridge.

Her research is practice-based and has included attending Drawing Quarters, UWE, Bristol and a residency, (as painter/gardener) with the National Trust. At present, Marilyn is making a body of work under the theme “Americana” which deals with issues of home, object and identity.
