| Nigel
Owen graduated from Central St. Martins School of
Art in 1989 and has worked as a freelance illustrator since
then. He has also worked as a designer at the National Portrait
Gallery and has taught illustration at a number of colleges
throughout the U.K. including The London College of Printing
and The University of Lincolnshire and Humberside. Nigel has
worked for a wide range of clients mainly in the U.K. and
the U.S. including; Jonathan Cape, Penguin Books, You Magazine,
and The Royal mail. Nigel’s working methods have evolved
over time, originally based around traditional paint based
media, then moving into areas of relief printmaking and now
are firmly centered on digital processes (Photoshop). Areas
of special interest to Nigel include conceptual thinking and
approaches to hand rendered type.
He has won silver and bronze in the categories
of Editorial and Books in the IMAGES awards (of which he was
also a judge in 2003). He was profiled in Graphics International
No. 86 (June 2001) and was a member of the ‘Big Orange
Studio’ from 1999 – 2001. His work has been frequently
exhibited in the U.K. & the U.S.
